The philanthropic photographer

» Surachai "Pui" Saengsuwan, L'Officiel Thailand's fashion editor and photographer, is known for his work in various Thai fashion magazines as well as reality competition shows such as The Face and The Face Men Thailand. But you may not know that he has been behind the lens of several photography projects to raise awareness around serious causes. He collaborated with Tom Potisit, also a well-known fashion photographer, to create "Anatomy 101" in 2015 to raise awareness on organ donation. In July last year, he created an online campaign for the Pic-A-Pet4Home shelter where he photographed handsome cadets with their canine friends to raise awareness on dog adoption. We talked to him about his latest project for Down Syndrome Hero Thailand (fb.com/downsyndromeherothailand) to de-stigmatise those who are born with the condition.

Chao Phraya River gets a cleanup boat

» Last week, The Ocean Cleanup, a non-profit organisation headquartered in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, that develops technologies to rid plastic from oceans, officially deployed its first solar-powered cleanup boat/system in the Chao Phraya River at the Commemoration of His Majesty the King Rama X's 6th Cycle Birthday Park in Bangkok's Bang Kho Laem district.

» At the risk of sounding like a Debbie Downer (or should I say Sad Somchai), there may be days when we question whether we're doing well or enough at our jobs e.g. making a typo and struggling to write something relevant and fun on a weekly basis. And once that feeling takes over, you can console yourself by looking for people who're at worse at their jobs compared to you, automatically patting yourself on the back. The good news is that you don't have to look far -- and I've done that for you, dear reader. These examples should leave you thinking, "I'm not that bad."
