    » It is not often I can remember where I was four days ago, let alone 44 years, but a sorry-looking diary confirms that on April 14, 1969, I was in the Thai resort town of Hua Hin. The place was jammed with Songkran holidaymakers, but virtually no foreigners. I had only been in Thailand a few days and hadn't a clue what was going on. I had seen people throwing water at one another, but thought maybe it's what they did all the time just to keep cool.

    A month for the PM to remember

    » By any standards, it's been quite a week for Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra. On Tuesday, she was given an audience by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. Later this afternoon she will be greeting US President Barack Obama in Bangkok. Later this week it's the Chinese premier. In between all of that she's managed to squeeze in a natter with British PM David Cameron. It certainly sounds a bit more interesting than my week.
