By Anonymous, Created on: 23/08/2003, Last updated on: 21/10/2007

» I would like to learn about the Thai lady in marriage and the Thai culture. The reason for this, is that after literally travelling the world for many years, during work commitments, and meeting along the way many ladies for serious relationships. I met along the way a lady from Thailand. We met many...

    • Anonymous commented : I do not much about UK's immigration laws. It would be easier if you contact UK embassy in Thailand or in UK. It is a good idea to get marry certificate in UK to eliminate any questions of legitimacy. Of course, it is nicer and cheaper to have large wedding party in Thailand since all her family's members could attend.

    family visa

By Anonymous, Created on: 02/01/2004, Last updated on: 12/09/2006

» When the Thai government will allow foreigners with Thai spouse and children to own a one year visa without the need to travel out of the country every 3 month or to show 800 thousands bahts in a bank account, this is very unfair and even most of the Thais don't earn this sum per year, why this discrimination...

    • Anonymous commented : I would like to be honest about US immigration policies here. Too many Thais??? Thais have to go through all the legal and medical processes before obtaining US visa whether they are returning or not...technically majority of them will return to Thailand according to time limit or pass due for various reasons; this is not not isolated incidence to just Thai nationals. We can consider NONE social ramification of Thais on social welfare system in the USA. US INS and congress seemed to caterring to and more linient to illegal immigrants who crossed into USA without proper medical and background checks. Now, Bush is talking about granting legal status to illegal from Central and South America. Hey, those legal and over stayed Thais are doing unwanted service jobs and paying taxes, and they do not have all those government supported babies.

    • Anonymous commented : Well it seems the author knows about the US immigration policy very well, but let us look a bit farther, is it all about Thais going to US or the other way round? how about the foreigners being harrassed daily on the streets of Bangkok by police---and immigration? (All of a sudden anybody in uniform here in Thailand can ask a foreigner about passport). How about people living in Thailand for years, married with kids yet without resident permit?, how about Africans that are on daily basis harrassed, picked up sometimes left to rot away at immigration detention center?, The Thai government should for once grant legal status to foreigners living living in Thailand in form of "Resident permit" irrespective of race or material status.

    • Anonymous commented : Whilst I agree that anbody wanting to move their life to another country should not expect to be supported by that country. Thailand is in my view being a little to paronoid. I can not understand how a foreign man married to a Thai woman cannot own land but a foreign woman married to a Thai man can, and this they say is not discrimination? It also seems that the recent huge increases in the fees for visa's is another step to discourage foriegners wanting to call Thailand home. I think the Thai goverment is right to be careful it would be to easy to loose control of immigration as we can see happenig in many european countries, but I also understand the current thinking, where else could a goverment get so much foreign income and support without commiting to anything in return. it is not impossible to stay and live in Thailand its just one might never feel that you can "put down roots" or ever be truly accepted.

    • Anonymous commented : Ian. The problem is your view by looking at things from outsider's perspective. I would ask you about the immigration laws in your country. What is main purpose of their immigration laws or any other laws regarding none citizens? When you mentioned about they are making contributions to Thailand, you were simply making generalized statement based on your country. These people want to benefit themselves and proliferate at our costs. Thailand does not have efficient taxation system to collect tax to fund other social programs to benefit the underclass, which are mostly indigenous population. These foreigners and businesses are like robber-barons. Thai history is full of foreigners who took Thai government and Thais to the cleaner. The 1997 economic collapse was engineered by foreigner who held high position in Thai banking system, Saxana or Saksana. He and other foreign and local corruptors put us under IMF and the indigenous Thais suffered the most. I would recommend to any foreigners to study Thai history , social and economy before making ignorant comments and arguments. Because these people do sounded like those white South Africans, cry baby. Thailand has not go through serious jackboot crackdown to clean up corruption and impounding all the illegal gains. AMLO is still does not have the real teeth and acting like they are working for certain political interests and catching mostly the little fishes.

    • Anonymous commented : After reading this disloyal Chinese individual, I am obsolutely believe that Thailand has no future since they will sell out our country and people at anytimes of day. Someday, we need to make the current immigration laws retroactive. AMLO needs to do their jobs and took care of these corruptors. By allowing other foreigners to have more rights to own land would not solve our current problems. But I do believe in Dharma, and they will get all that they deserved.

    • Anonymous commented : Ian, you are going off track again. There is no co-relation in Thai military and police controlled by Thais and Chineses controlled business sectors. In Thailand, Thais should have control of all sectors of Thailand. The seasons that we have these problems with unwanted immigrants/refugees are that Thai government never have control of our borders and no immigration services like in Europe or their colonies. European colonial powers were making their own rules against Thailand since they could not totally colonized Siam; therefore, they found many other ways of controlling Thailand and our economy. They divided our territories and people, and they imported their colonial subjects to do their dirty works for them while they extracted our national resources. Please do not talk about equality if you are not very meant it. It made you sounded like someone with foreign agendas. It is obvious that you still inherited colonial mindset. In my opinion, foreigners are simply borrowers and temporaly stewardships of the colonized land; therefore, they have no real final says regarding to these lands. I lived and live in USA as an US citizen, but I am just another borrower and not a full owner of the land like the descendants of Cortez and Mayflower or such people. As borrowers, we have responsibilities to care for the lands and respecting the indigenous people and thespirits of their ancestors. The land has spirit too if you are willing to listen to them. We, Thais, do listen to and respect the spirits of the lands.

    Dowery

» Hello and thanks to all that responded to my last questions. Those of you who have been following my last questions thanks. I am set to marry in Nov or Dec and I talked to her family. My dowery is set at 2 milllion bath and I already gave a 200,000 bath strater to show that I was interested. What...

    • Anonymous commented : Well, you are dream of some kind of uniformity like some kind of communita utopia. The western countries have their European cultures. Thailand needs to have our own uniqueness and culture. Thai dowery system is there for a good reason to protect the girls' viginity and their families from male parasites. Thailand and Thais need to learn the best things from foreign countries and not bad things like bad fashions, bad movies, bad cultures, bad habits, bad governments, bad religions, and etc.. It is appeared that you have never participate in the governing processes since you educated comments about Thai laws and taxation. If you want real utopia, you need to advocate for borderless world, no immigration law, freedom of moment, free trade, one world order/government, and I guest that free everythings would also satisfy your needs. Oh, who is going to labor on the land to produce foods, build roads, dig dirt, clean toilets, or do all those things to provide for free services. Oh, It is better to divide the world into two. Where A section is always providing certain services and raiding the B section for free everythings, the government of B section will have to pretend and lie to their citizens that they are good, hard working, and people of the land. Oh, it already happened. The first world is already living off their colonial dividends from the developing world and by exploiting them for slave labors and natural resources too.

» In March, my Thai partner wanted to visit me in London. Before granting a visa, the Embassy wanted a mountain of paperwork including proof of my income, whether or not I woned my own home and a whole lot of other things.
