Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 25/11/2016

» Paopanga "Pao" Siddhigu and Bussabhawan "Pook" Siddhigu are the founders of FITCRAZE (www.fitcrazeth.com), an online store for fashionable sportswear. But don't let their sweet-looking faces fool you — they have every intention of building their start-up into a sportswear empire. Pao ingeniously combines her experience in e-commerce with Pook's extensive knowledge of the high-end fashion industry and together they have created an online community catered to those who like to shop and share their passions for their active and fashionable lifestyle. Guru chats to the siblings to find out more about their business, the latest trends and which IG accounts to follow for some fitness inspiration.

» The setting: The opening of Habito Mall has encouraged many Bangkokians -- whose preference for dining destinations usually won't extend far beyond Thong Lor's reach -- to actually venture a tiny bit further down Sukhumvit Road. This spanking new community mall is basically a melting pot of various cuisines -- albeit all relatively familiar to our palate -- where you're guaranteed to find something for everyone.

    Holy cheeseus!

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 16/09/2016

» Do we need an excuse to write about cheese? Not really. Sure, we can justify it with a number of recent events that clearly call for celebration, and what better way to do it than by over indulging on that edible block of gold that always seems to lock our gaze in the outer aisles of Villa Market. The breakup of Hiddleswift? Maybe. Or how about the fact that our Dear Leader wants to standardise Thai food across the globe so that it all tastes the same (yay!). Seriously, who doesn't love a good ol' single-standard-tasting som tum?

    Not your usual lunch ladies

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 02/09/2016

» Anyone who has ever worked or is currently working in the F&B and hospitality industry knows that the word "easy" is not a part of the job description. And anyone who says otherwise, is probably not doing it right. From dealing with difficult customers and unreliable suppliers to spending long hours on your feet in the kitchen working under tremendous pressure, there are a myriad of reasons that make working in F&B sound far from a dream job to most. But there are those few out there who welcome these challenges and manage to do it with a smile still intact.

    Words behaving badly

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 15/07/2016

» If the politicians and people of power here do anything well, it's finding the right euphemisms to spin "bad" terms into, well, "not so bad" terms.

    Breaking tradition

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 15/07/2016

» Just when you think the golden soi has had enough of Japanese eateries -- who are we kidding, Thong Lor will never get over its obsession with sushi. Be it the traditional omakase-style or the fusion places where the chefs try to stuff as many artery-clogging ingredients as possible into a roll. Oh yeah, goose liver, fatty wagyu beef, caviar -- they're not trying to kill you or anything. One thing is for certain; if you've got raw fish and wasabi, Bangkokians will eventually find their way to you.

» Although the term "changemaker" is becoming increasingly popular in Thailand, finding someone with this occupation whose interest and passion lies in creative learning and community building is a rare gem. Meet Sikharin "Chrissie" Langkulsen; while she works full-time as a project manager at HUBBA, her spare time is wisely spent organising artistic projects that brings individuals together. » Do you know what it's like walking around EmQuartier with a hangover? It's like everything in there is trying its hardest to prolong your throbbing headache. You've got blinding bright lights, speakers blasting the sort of dance tunes that are way too chirpy for a weekday. And to top it all off, the overly-enthusiastic Uniqlo staff pushing you to take a goddamn leaflet.

    Au Naturale

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 17/06/2016

» First of all, hats off to anyone in the F&B business attempting to do something vaguely new; us Bangkokians aren't a breed so easily persuaded to cross uncharted waters. So stubborn and set in our own ways, for a long time we actually thought the only "real" pizzas were those flat and crispy, and that the only types of cheese we favoured were those that tasted like melted plastic.

    To health and delicious possibilities

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 03/06/2016

» Gin was what came to mind when I first heard of Tonic. And as ironic as it sounds, I was rather glad to find healthy food on the menu instead of some strange infused-beverage crafted by a good looking bearded hipster. And 11am seems a bit early to start drinking on the job, even for me.
