    Waiting on Vol 3

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 28/04/2017

» Prior to 2014, most of us have probably never even heard of Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy series, let alone expect to see a high-budget film adaptation of it become universally praised. Filled with the humour, heart and the visual spectacles Marvel has always been so good at, director James Gunn captured lightning with the first film. Marvel seems to agree, which is why Vol 2 was produced, arriving in Thai theatres earlier this week.

    A war worth watching

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 14/07/2017

» Despite being critical and commercial successes upon their release, the Planet Of The Apes reboot franchise -- beginning with 2011's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and followed by 2014's Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes -- never really registered on my radar. I did watch the 2011 film when it was first released, though I didn't find it particularly memorable. I completely forgot about the second, and only realised 15 minutes into War For The Planet Of The Apes that it was in fact the third and closing feature in the series.

    Monstrously uninspiring

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 09/06/2017

» Watching The Mummy -- the latest reboot of the classic Hollywood monster -- I couldn't help but recall a re-imagining of a similar classic Hollywood monster, 2014's Dracula Untold. Bashed by critics as a poor attempt at "superhero-izing" Dracula, it was largely recognised as a bad film, one that would most likely be better off with a stake in its metaphorical heart.

Great sequel - more action, more story

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 17/02/2017

» The original John Wick -- released in 2014 -- was perhaps the most enjoyable, well-crafted action film I have seen in years. Despite having a paper-thin premise -- retired (but legendary) assassin John Wick goes on a rampage against an entire army of Russian gangsters for killing his dog and stealing his car -- the film succeeded thanks to its masterfully choreographed action sequences and beautifully shot scenes. If nothing else, the original John Wick proved that you really don't need much in terms of story to make a great action film.

    The game-playing life

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 29/11/2017

» They're known as gamecasters -- those who sit around all day making videos of themselves playing video games and getting paid for it. It is work and play rolled into one, in the age of gaming, YouTube and online celebrity.

And a child shall lead them

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 09/06/2017

» In 1989, the world was sent reeling following the horrifying massacre at Tiananmen Square, when the Communist regime of the People's Republic of China (as ironic today as it was all those years ago) ruthlessly mowed down hundreds of unarmed pro-democracy protesters. The massacre sent a stern message to the people of China as well as the entire world from the regime: the Communist Party will not be swayed by dissension of any kind, and will eliminate those standing in its way.

Siam Square's night of the living dead

Life, Kanin Srimaneekulroj, Published on 31/03/2017

» Siam Square needs no introduction. With a history dating back to the 1970s, the shopping district remains the prime meeting spot for today's Bangkok youth, with plenty of shops, restaurants and a building literally made of tutoring schools. It's not the kind of place you'd expect to associate with a horror film, which is exactly what makes Siam Square, the directorial-debut of Pairat Kumwan, so interesting.
