Pain For Pleasure

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 14/06/2019

» Piyanan "Pi" Kaensuwan and her partner Nutthaphat "Muu" Junpong are practitioners of all things BDSM (for those not in the know, that's sadism and masochism, bondage and discipline or dominance and submission) and are behind the Shibari Night BKK events that used to take place in the now-closed Maison Close. Representing themselves as a dominant cat and a submissive dog, they also manage the Facebook group Thailand BDSM: "Let's Play and Learn", where they hope to provide information for newcomers and veterans on erotic role-playing practices. The pair, along with figures in the shibari (rope bondage) and BDSM scene, recently hosted the very first BDSM Art Fest at De Commune. The event served as an introduction to the BDSM lifestyle and as a platform for education and to destigmatise the practice.

Loud and proud

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 14/06/2019

» We've finally hit the half way mark of the year -- June and if you've been out and about, you may have noticed rainbow-coloured decorations (or at least rainbows on your Facebook newsfeed ) because we are in Pride Month. The month in which the LGBTQ+ community promote and express themselves and celebrate gender diversity and sexual identity. The gay pride movement is celebrated throughout the world ever since the Stonewall Riots of 1969 in Manhattan, New York, a pivotal event that led to creation of the movement for LGBT rights. Prominent figures in the community tell GURU what pride means to them and what are they proud. We've also compiled a few pride celebration events around the city that are worth everyone's attention.

All You Need Is Scone

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 15/03/2019

» What better way to enjoy a scone than fresh from the oven? These small biscuit-like cakes have always been a staple in the UK afternoon tea sets and have been ingrained in my travelling and studying experiences there. So, of course, being back in Thailand, if there's one thing I miss, it is a good scone. Located in the busy streets of Ari, Witty Ville aims to give customers what they want -- a well-made scone.

Friendly neighbourhood cafe

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 11/01/2019

» Having opened in August last year, About White Cafe & Bistro is part of the hip hub of creativity and renovated spaces of all things art and cuisine in the Charoen Krung area. Living up to its name, the small cafe evokes all things white from its bright white light neon sign hung on the white-tiled walls to the decor and furniture. You can sit to face the wide windows and look at the greenery outside or sit outside in an urban-garden setting. A cafe that is easy on the eyes and a place where you can chill out with friends and play boardgames, which include Exploding Kittens and Uno.

Life Is Full Of Chocolates

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 28/12/2018

» Who says chocolate can't be art? With more than 13 years experience, master chocolatier Sarath Nimlamai has established the eponymous Sarath N. Chocolatier where he specialises in crafting and serving all things chocolate, with a primary focus on the sweet, small and chocolatey-filled bonbons. What's unique about his craft is his ability to fuse unique ingredients into said bonbons such as Thai liqueur and fruits such as raspberry and mango. Having opened in October, he opened up this small and minimalist chocolate shop in the hopes of showcasing what Thailand can offer with chocolate, with the cacao home-grown in a farm outside the city.
