Jubei, my bae

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 14/04/2017

» The setting: An update on its menu signalled another chance for us to head on over to Jubei Izakaya. If you haven't already been, it's a two-storey cozy bar and restaurant right by BTS Phloen Chit. We were automatically drawn into the contemporary feel of the place, with its bleu de France coloured brick walls, peppered with on-point graphic illustrations, graffiti and an array of Japanese umbrellas in various colours. Before you walk in, after passing La Monita, you are able to look into the kitchen from the outside and upon walking in you're met with a bar filled with bottles of unspeakable liquids used to craft some of the classiest and tastiest concoctions that will send your head to dizzying heights. Fast-paced city workers gather here for intimate vibes and tasty bites after a long day at the office.

Mad about Marcel

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 22/07/2016

» You're stepping into the cozy abode of a Parisian hipster when you enter Marcel. The black and white chequered floor, the French blue walls, the light wooden tables and the sound of Prince all align together nicely, inviting you to stay. Books and newspapers line the bottom of the staircase, as do Polaroid photos of the restaurant's regular attendees, Marcel's extended family. This family has grown bigger in the last year since its opening.
