Ms Right's all wrong, like the movie
Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 15/05/2020
» Tim, a lonely middle-aged guy, had a nightmarish blind date a few months ago, but later while travelling he stumbles upon the woman of his dreams at the airport, who happens to also have the name Missy. They're like a perfect match and their relationship quickly escalates through text messages. Tim wants to take this hot girl as his date to his corporate retreat on an island resort in Hawaii over the weekend, where he has to impress his boss for promotion, so he texts to invite her to come along and luckily she replies yes.

Come for the comedy, stay for the music
Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 03/07/2020
» I'm usually quite sceptical when it comes to Will Ferrell's movies. Although I think he's a fairly funny guy, I also know that his trademark over the top blustering slapstick sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. But since the new musical comedy Eurovision Song Contest: The Story Of Fire Saga was directed by David Dobkin, who directed the decent Wedding Crashers (2005), and with Ferrell who co-wrote and produced the film, I decided to give this new Netflix feature a try. While I don't think this comedy is necessarily funny, the production value, the pacing, the music and choreography are surprisingly well done. And especially the romcom of the two lead characters Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams is sweet, heartfelt, and definitely worth the watch.

A flat remake
Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 29/03/2024
» Despite initial disappointment and a lukewarm box office reception, the 1989 classic Road House has become a cult favourite over the years. Fast forward to 2024, and director Doug Liman hopes to recreate the same blend of absurd action and charismatic heroism with a revamped version of Road House featuring Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role (originally portrayed by the late Patrick Swayze). While Liman's adaptation retains the over-the-top spirit, it struggles to capture the same magic that made the original a cult classic.

The Lovebirds glides along
Life, Tatat Bunnag, Published on 05/06/2020
» I discovered both director Michael Showalter and actor Kumail Nanjiani for the first time back in 2017 at the press screening for a romcom I then knew very little about called The Big Sick. And with its indie-ish charm, Nanjiani's witty performances, clever jokes about romance and cultural identity, The Big Sick turned out to be one of the movies I most remember from that same year. So I was really excited to hear they teamed up once again in the new comedy The Lovebirds, which is now streaming on Netflix. And although the new film is an entirely different beast and may not be as good as its predecessor, The Lovebirds still manages to deliver a semi-good laugh, and a heartwarming love story.

CGI overload
Life, Melalin Mahavongtrakul, Published on 18/10/2019
» Mother is back. And now there are two of them! Angelina Jolie and Michelle Pfeiffer face off in Disney's Maleficent: Mistress Of Evil, now in cinemas. It's entertaining. It's busy. It's over the top with CGI faeries, winged creatures and warfare.
