12 nights of European films

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 24/06/2016

» It's that time of year again. The time of year to get lost in European romance, tragedy, history, comedy and perhaps a little bit of all. If you've got the conviction and resources to catch all 17 films across 12 days, by all means carpe diem. But if you're looking for a little guidance in choosing screenings, here are our top five picks of the festival.

One-way ticket girl

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 10/06/2016

» We've all fantasised about leaving it all behind to explore the world full-time, but let's be real — how many of us would realistically opt out of stability and having nice stuff? Kookai — Piyapattra Chaimahawong — is one former-Bangkokian who took the road less-travelled. In November of 2015, the then 22-year-old ran with her instincts, quitting her job, putting her apartment on lease and buying a one-way ticket out of town. The spur of the moment decision ended up leading her to finding sustainability in being a digital nomad as well as a loving travel companion, Mathieu. Guru catches up with the travel bug to talk about living a location-independent life and her blog, makeajourney.co.

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 15/04/2016

» We've all heard of those ridiculously fit grandparents who run marathons or have abs that make us question what we're doing with our lives. At some point you've had to ask yourself, "If that's 60, 70, 80 or 100 years old, then how old am I?" In the past, this would have just been left as a hypothetical question to emphasise your feelings of inadequacy, but with the technology that exists today, you can now actually find out how old your body is.

Please label us

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 26/02/2016

» Multi-label retailers have been popular for a long time in progressive urban cultures such as Los Angeles, Melbourne and Tokyo, so where has Bangkok been? Obsessing over high-rise luxury malls housing tonnes and tonnes of single-label shops. But at last, it seems we are evolving, refining our tastes to prefer low-key, even local splendours. We're also becoming lazier. Wouldn't we all rather visit one cool little store that conveniently brings together the best items from the best labels? You know that's the truth, so here are the one-stop shops in Bangkok you need to know about.

Wife and child approved

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 04/12/2015

» Tomorrow is Thai Father’s Day, and I’m curious about something: When you’re out tomorrow, “treating” your dad to a feast of gratitude for not giving up on you, who’s driving and who’s paying? You? Mom? Surely not Dad… right?
