LIFE

Get social

Guru, Eric E Surbano, Published on 26/02/2021

» It's 2009. Barack Obama was sworn in as US president. Protesters are on the street (different protesters though, not like the ones protesting now). Your iPod contains hits like Boom Boom Pow, I'm Yours and even though you hide it, you also listen to that new blonde girl's song called Love Story because it's a bop. And then there's this new thing called Facebook that people seem to be using more and more. You don't know if you're willing to give up your pimped out Hi5 profile complete with a glittery background and a MP3 player loaded with Big Ass' Len Kaung Soong but you decide to give it a shot. More than 10 years and a number of privacy issues later, you're still using Facebook along with a number of other social networking apps, but perhaps you may be looking for other ways to build a community and meet new people. Perhaps you want to meet like-minded people like you who share you love for entrepreneurship or memes, and maybe you even want to get on platforms that will actually make you some dough. Facebook isn't your only avenue. We've got you sorted on where else you can build or find a community that's right for you.

» For the first time ever, heel fanatics will be able to buy themselves a pair of Christian Louboutin shoes for approximately 62 baht. That's a crazy good deal, considering how a pair of shoes from this luxury high-end brand should set you back no less than 20,000 baht. The catch, however, is that all this must be done (and worn) in the Korea-based gaming application Zepeto.

Taking the long view

Life, Sawarin Suwichakornpong, Published on 19/10/2017

» In Greek mythology, Mnemosyne is the goddess of memory. Impregnated by Zeus, she gave birth to the nine muses with whom artists, poets, musicians, writers and historians are familiar. As a daughter of Uranus, Mnemosyne is also a goddess of time; she provides the role of rote memorisation and invents language and words where her daughters, the muses, pick up and render them. She is a goddess that makes memory alive and is often acquainted with vivid remembrance.

» A small Indonesian film can't claim the spotlight at the star-studded Toronto International Film Festival, but maybe it's something audiences in our region should look forward to. A Copy Of My Mind, the new film by director Joko Anwar, is probably the highest-profile movie from Indonesia this year after its premiere at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival earlier this month and now a run at Toronto, the biggest film event in North America that runs until Sunday.
