Social media meltdowns

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 15/05/2015

» Social media posts are sometimes newsworthy, especially those that make you say "What's he/she on?" -- or just blurt out a good old "WTF". We hope you already know you should be careful with things you make public online so they won't come back to slap you with real-life consequence. It seems, however, that some people haven't yet received that message.

Worth the sweat

» If you pride yourself on the ability to eat spicy food (which we assume many Thais do), there’s a new place in town where you can put your tongue to the test. Katsu-Tan Ramen, which opened on Mar 3, offers ramen where you can customise spicy levels. But while the chilli options are exciting, the atmosphere offers nothing to get excited about. It’s basically a shophouse with cute pictures of the owner rendered in cartoon form on the white wall. Out front, there’s a display of food replicas and a TV playing Japanese TV shows that have featured Katsu-Tan Ramen. From its location, you can probably guess that the majority of patrons consist of Mathayom students from nearby cram schools, Chula students and white-collar Thais.

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 14/06/2013

» CentralWorld is buzzing with more people than usual at the moment because a fair dedicated to street food is being held there until Sunday (see Food, p20), attempting to cement Thailand as the hub of street food. The fact is we can celebrate street food all year round given the sheer number of food vendors in this city. However, for first-time visitors (or even some Bangkok khun noos) the street food scene may feel like unexplored territory. We are here to help with our very own guide to Bangkok street food.

Jobs gone wrong

» Work can be a pain in the ass (well, provided you actually have to work for a living). Not only do we have to wake up at an ungodly hour every morning, we're expected to put on pants, brave traffic and/or smelly commuters, suck up to the boss, deal with other people, and actually get stuff done on a daily basis. And on top of all that... we're expected to maintain an air of professionalism the whole way through!

LIFE

The lame blame game

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 06/07/2012

» We all have done something in the past we have not wanted to admit to, and then tried to come up with an excuse to avoid the blame. You might have said the dog ate your homework instead of admitting laziness to your teacher. Or maybe you told your parents the cigarette pack belonged to your friend, which was technically true since you both chipped in money to buy it. Or perhaps you blamed being late to work on a taxi driver taking you on a detour when you were actually up until 4am partying.
