Your sort of Sretsis

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 26/11/2021

» Die-hard fans of the Sretsis fashion brand who want a custom wedding dress by the label -- brace yourselves for this cold, hard limitation. Their creative director Pimdao Sukhahuta will only be able to oversee two clients per year to design a brand-new, one-of-a-kind ensemble for special occasions. Book your slots early because the process to truly understand each bride or wearer's desires requires Pimdao no less than six months to conceive a gown that ticks all your boxes of dreamy extravaganza.

A heart-racing time at the track

» Locals say The Fullerton is where the best view is when it comes to the Formula 1 races held in Singapore, but, to be honest, a 360 view has nothing on being near the vroom-ing roar of engines, right at the heart of the happening. Unless you were to throw a party for 40 in your suite's veranda, it's probably a better idea to splash on getting actual tickets to the event than paying five times the usual room rates. For a first-timer to this whole night-race experience and F1 weekend in Singapore, there is nothing quite as infectious as the collective gasps and cheers every time a race car zooms by or how one derives guilty pleasure when witnessing a crash.

Nothing standard about it

» Having worked as the assistant of hospitality for trailblazer Barry Sternlicht when the Starwood empire was just getting launched, Amar Lalvani was right at the birth of the whole "cool lifestyle hotel" movement as it came into fruition 20 years ago. "I was there since the beginning and I loved it," the California-born hotelier recalls. "I didn't seek it, but when I saw it, it encapsulated everything I liked to do so I just stuck with it."

Hip, cool and happening

» Over the past few weeks, one particular investment move from our shores -- somewhat equivalent to Crazy Rich Asian's Astrid going on a haute couture shopping rampage -- has been the talk of the town. Thailand's prominent real estate developer, Sansiri, has just invested 2.8 billion baht to buy shares in six of the some of the world's hippest, coolest and innovative names: Standard International, One Night, Hostmaker, JustCo, Farmshelf and Monocle. It's a result of stagnant sales back home and Sansiri's strategy to offer an all-inclusive living solution to their customers, as their president Srettha Thavisin explains. To choose to invest in companies that are young, inventive and trendy, however, shows how the real estate giant has their sights set on the tech-savvy millennials of tomorrow.

» Only one word can encapsulate Tattoo Colour and what it's like to be sitting in the same room with them: guan teen. This would roughly translate to its members' smartass demeanour. It is no wonder that this energy, time and time again, makes their music feel like the equivalent of your all-knowing college BFF giving you a pat on the back (or smack in the head) when love goes bitter.

» It's not often that you get to see austere ministers of various ministries, business bigwigs, Hong Kong superstar Ray Lui (better known in Thailand as Tingli), K-pop singers and hundreds of screaming groupies all in the same room. Yet all those differing personalities came together under the flashing glitz and glam of the Thailand Headlines Person of the Year Award ceremony last month at Bangkok Convention Centre, Centara Grand.

» Phakdi "Try" Santaweesuk avoids the press like the plague. We didn't have to throw an ear-splitting fit on the floor the way his comic characters tend to, but it did take much pestering and badgering before the cartoonist for Ai Tua Lek -- which stars the nation's most popular mischief-maker, Pangpond -- agreed to come out of hiding.

» The more you see of Sirivannavari shows, the more you become impressed by a constant thread of sophistication and international standard that the fashion house heads towards. March 31 saw HRH Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana's spring/summer 2016 presentation, with the stomping grounds at Royal Paragon Hall, as usual. Again, a wide, white catwalk is fashioned in the empty hall, with a grand seating arrangement on the stage that hinted how a symphony would be playing later.
