Son of vinyl

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 23/12/2016

» Not a fan of the overplayed, for-the-masses type of music? Then you need to tune into Cat Radio, the number one independent music station in Thailand. What makes this station (available on www.thisiscat.com and application: Cat Radio) special (apart from its absence of the typical high-pitch DJs screeching down the microphone stressing the 'r's and 'l's in every sentence — yes we get it, well done, you've finally mastered the American accent!) is its unique picks of songs. This is all thanks to Arthit Promprasit, aka DJ Sonny, whose passion lies in vinyl records. He's been collecting them for over 25 years. His experience in the music field lies beyond the decks and building a huge record collection; he is also a music critic and journalist — as well as a DJ with the smoothest voice we've ever come across.

What's cooking, neighbour?

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 05/02/2016

» After noticing a huge pool of culinary talent hidden in Bangkok's home kitchens — and a growing demand for authentic meals — Samuel Coizet and Pakki Sampataphakdee co-founded Kinkao (www.kinkao.co), an online platform that allows home chefs to cook and sell home-made meals to the people in their neighbourhoods. From Vietnamese to Mexican to Southern Thai, you can find nearly every type of cuisine on the website. We spoke with the founders about their endeavour.

A feast for foodies

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 21/08/2015

» Whether you're a burger fanatic who is frustrated over the use of processed cheese on top of your Wagyu patty, a steak lover whose blood pressure rises every time you have to explain what you meant when you ordered your rib-eye "bleu", or just an ordinary foodie who appreciates good food and good wine, the World Gourmet Festival (WGF) is truly an unmissable event.

BBQ, Briskly

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 12/06/2015

» Bangkok’s food scene isn’t experiencing a shortage of new food trucks to try — and sure, anyone with a grill can cook a burger and dish it out on paper plates. But Southern-style BBQ sandwiches? Now, that’s a different story.

Stall standing

Guru, Jarupat Buranastidporn, Published on 05/06/2015

» Following the heartbreaking news concerning the removal of food stalls on Sukhumvit Soi 38 (Bangkok's foodie paradise), many are distraught, with not a clue as to where our favourite food vendors (whom we love to hit up after a long night of fist-pumping) will relocate. As humongous malls and super-ultra-luxurious condominiums continue to expand and occupy every square metre of the city, it won't be long until we're digging into a B200 som tam on the 60th floor of some lacklustre, air-conditioned, concrete tower.
