» The world instantly associates saris with India. But if Mehzabin Ershad could have it her way, it would also think of the mekhela chador, a half-sari that comes specifically from the Assam state in India. As one of the forces who shaped the northeastern region's fashion industry to the colourful array it is today, the pioneering fashion designer was recently in Bangkok to showcase her designs at "Celebrating Assam", at the inaugural "Festival of India in Thailand".
