» Thirty-six years ago, the 10-year-old me felt excited to see the replicas of more than 100 historic monuments, life-sized and smaller, in one place. Many other Thai students must feel the same since one of the must-sees on any school study trip is Muang Boran (Ancient Siam) in Samut Prakan province. Nowadays, Muang Boran has become a Thai art and culture learning centre and also a popular setting for the filming of TV series and movies.

» If tourists have only a day to spend in the Thai capital and want to relax by the sea, Bang Khun Thian is a nice choice. Bang Khun Thian is a Bangkok district of which a certain part of its shoreline forms part of the Gulf of Thailand. » Their skilful hands focused on art pieces they were creating, and their eyes were locked on the details. Their hearts, apparently, were with HM the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who passed away on Oct 13 last year. At the Fine Arts Department's Office of Traditional Arts in Nakhon Pathom, two groups of 20 men and women from all walks of life brought out their best during a recent audition where the office recruited volunteers to help official artisans build a royal urn and coffin and sculpt statues for decorating the royal crematorium.

However, the nearby Si Bua Thong Handicraft Centre in Ang Thong province is also worth a visit because you will be able to see the embroidery of khon mask dance costumes, the production of the rare pha yok (traditional silk brocades) and khon masks for the annual Royal Khon Performance there.
