Digital push is key for rural areas

Oped, Jong-Jin Kim, Published on 24/06/2022

» It wasn't long ago that internet connectivity faded the moment one left a populated area like a city or big town -- "no service" was the take-away message back then. But thanks to 3G, 4G and now 5G mobile technology, coupled with the widespread installation of cellular towers in rural areas region-wide, that little message shows up much less frequently.

OPINION

No more casual sexism

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 17/06/2022

» Last Friday, PM Prayut Chan-o-cha made another insensitive verbal blunder. You may say, "Hey, Pornchai, aren't you used to this by now?" but I would argue that this latest (and hopefully last one) merits a response from yours truly, delivered with the utmost respect as always.

'Fun police' strike again

News, Post Reporters, Published on 18/04/2021

» I would like to ask the powers that be why I am being punished? Never in 25 years have I broken a Thai law. I have never partaken in the illegal nightlife entertainment for which the country is famous.

No dodgy dealings today, thank you

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 06/09/2020

» Thailand marks its annual National Anti-Corruption Day today, which might possibly prompt a few wry smiles in certain quarters. It is indeed a time to rejoice.

Peta's complaint about monkeys isn't totally nuts

Oped, Sirinya Wattanasukchai, Published on 08/07/2020

» When I heard that coconut products from Thailand had been banned from supermarkets in London, as a result of a campaign by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (Peta), I wasn't surprised. Peta is known to take the welfare of all types of animals seriously.

OPINION

Criminal taxi scammers

News, Postbag, Published on 19/05/2019

» Hailing a taxi in Bangkok has become almost impossible. Being forced to overpay or walk is the only option for tourists these days. It's gotten worse, much worse.

OPINION

News that is driving us all up the wall

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 20/01/2019

» Just as most Brits must be sick to death of ever hearing the word Brexit, across the Pond one suspects the majority of Americans have also had more than their fill of The Wall. You can't escape those dreaded words even here in Thailand. Switch on the satellite news and you will be bombarded by the two topics, analysed by every expert in the world, most of whom happen to have just written a book on the subject.

News, Editorial, Published on 30/09/2018

» As the world community marks Rabies Day this week, Thailand has to hang its head in shame.
