Stop the Madness

» A very eccentric man by the moniker of K Roy-lan (K Hundreds of Million), who is said to be a real estate businessman, has been on a scary spree lately. On Feb 1, he stopped his car in the middle of the road in front of CentralWorld and released snakes. He later poured red syrup on his body and threw a glass bottle, while being in Siam Paragon. He then threatened to release snakes at Thammasart University and, most recently, carried a bag of snakes with him while staying in a hotel.

Thai-Style Xmas

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 24/12/2021

» Despite the fact that a majority of the Thai population claim to be Buddhists, they go all out to celebrate Jesus Christ's birthday every year. Even though they may not be aware that it's his birthday and Xmas isn't even an official holiday despite all the lights and Christmas trees that pop up across the country. I've gone down Bangkok Post's archive (Xmas pun intended) to present a few quirky and local twists on the worldwide holiday. While they may not be unique to Thailand, they are definitely memorable. Merry Christmas, everyone!

Body Autonomy Is No Family Matter

» Last week, a Thai musician got into scorching hot water for sharing pictures and a video clip of him being "affectionate" with his nine-year-old daughter via his Instagram and TikTok. I put the quotation there since the public promptly questioned his social media display of affection towards his daughter, to say the least. Warning, I'm about to describe what he did to show the extent of his actions and you may find it very unpleasant.

Let’s Talk About Porn

» Thai OnlyFans creators are probably sweating right now due to the police clamp down on them for making explicit content, which is illegal in Thailand. Nong Khai Nao (Miss Bad Egg), the most well-known of Thai creators, was arrested on Monday night along with her boyfriend. Nong Khai Nao allegedly raked in, at her peak, nearly B1 million in three months, but has now quit OnlyFans to focus on her YouTube content instead. They face three years imprisonment or a B60,000 fine, or both.

WOTY: Guru's Style

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 04/12/2020

» We have less than a month before 2020 comes to an end (this year has flown so fast). And one of the year-end traditions by famous dictionaries is to announce Word(s) of the Year, the most important and prevailing words or expressions of a specific year's zeitgeist. Called "Wort des Jahres", this German tradition began in 1971.

#ProtestIdeas

» Accompanying the student-led protests against the government that continue to spread in many provinces, are new hashtags. #ไอเดียออกม๊อบ (unofficially translates to #IdeasForMob) is the latest one that has caught my eyes. Thai twitter users use the hashtag to come up with ways to make the protest more fun and interesting. Leave it to Thais to find lighter sides of things. Here are a few examples. g

Hairy situation

» Schools are back in session and so is the debate over the student hairstyle. A new batch of pictures of students whose hair got cut or shaved poorly against their will, as a form of punishment, by their teachers has been recently circulated online. We're probably getting another set once the next hair inspection day comes. Last Friday, student activists submitted a petition to the Ministry of Education asking for clarity over the hairstyle rule. You see, the ministry has already allowed students to wear their hair long so long as it's neat and complies with other conditions. However, a few schools still take it upon themselves to cut students' hair that they deem "inappropriate".

Getting around social distancing

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 24/04/2020

» Let's face it, people. We don't go out with a tape measure in our bag (next to a bottle of hand sanitiser, a pair of plastic gloves and a spare face mask) to make sure we all adhere to the recommended six feet of social distancing. Hopefully, we do the best we can in the given circumstances or find a way to protect ourselves even when we aren't sure we're six feet apart from one another. Here are a few real-life examples for your entertainment.
