» Somsak "Pai" Boonkam is the founder and CEO of Local Alike (http://fb.com/LocalAlike), although he does prefer the title social worker, as this describes what he does through his noted social enterprise more accurately. Through various trips and travel packages arranged by Local Alike, he has connected travellers with various local communities to create a unique travel experience based on the concept of community-based tourism. Are you AEC-ready?

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 22/01/2016

» All those years leading up to AEC were spent in childlike excitement in Thailand. Now it's been 22 days since the official launch of the much-anticipated Asean Economic Community, but if you've only managed to (vaguely) memorise all 10 names of Asean members and their corresponding greetings -- and practically nothing else -- don't worry. Forget experts' and authorities' mundane and serious suggestions on how to prepare for the AEC. This week, Guru makes getting to know AEC fun for everyone.

Socially Screwed

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 09/11/2012

» Despite enabling us to stalk our exes to our heart's content, social media can also have some negative side effects. For the average person, this could come in the form of almost being run over by a car because you're too preoccupied sending cute (stupid) stickers to a friend via LINE. Not to mention all the weight that goes straight to your ass because you're surfing YouTube until the wee hours, or the horror of having your boss friend request you on Facebook.

Piecing it together

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 18/05/2012

» If we were to see the world like a child, we would realise there are so many unanswered questions staring us right in the face; at restaurants, on the street, pretty much everywhere we look. But don't fret, as we've done some digging and tackled questions you have never even thought to ask. Here are the little-known origins of eight things to bore your date or people at a party with. Don't say we never teach you anything.

LIFE

Off the beaten track

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 17/02/2012

» There are certain must-see attractions for first-time visitors to Thailand: Patpong, Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Khao San Road, an elephant show, ladyboy cabaret, Hua Hin, a Full Moon party, some more beaches... But with all this distraction, visitors might miss out on the atypical attractions your average tour guide doesn't know about. To do our part in promoting the miracle that is Thai tourism, we have selected five lesser-known villages where visitors can discover Thais living in unique ways.
