» 1Coffee lovers are in for a treat this weekend as Away Magazine in collaboration with Lhong 1919 will be hosting their first ever Bangkok Coffee Cult event. Coming from an urge to organise a small get-together of Bangkok's best cafés, Bangkok Coffee Cult, which takes place until tomorrow, will engage people in the science and culture of coffee. At the grounds of Lhong 1919, baristas from Blue Whale, Casa Lapin, Duck You Caferista and many more will be there to serve some of their newest signature drinks. There will also be tastings of coffee cocktails and activities like coffee pairings. Bangkok Coffee Cult takes place from 11am-7pm at Lhong 1919. Tickets cost 200 baht, and can be traded for a cup of coffee at any participating café.

» 1It's a good start to the new year for music lovers as English indie pop band The XX will make their debut in Bangkok on Jan 29 at ThunderDome Muang Thong Thani. The London-based pop trio -- Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith are known for their minimal and hypnotic sound, drawing in huge raves from critics with their first album XX (2009) and later on Coexist (2012). After four years, the band just released their latest album I See You in early 2017. Prepare to be hypnotised by their biggest hits like Intro, Crystalised and Say Something Loving. » 1. Good news for those who have yet to visit King Bhumibhol's crematorium at Sanam Luang. His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has granted an extension of visitation until Dec 31, with hopes that those who live in the provinces will have an opportunity to witness the finest Thai craftsmanship on display. Besides the royal crematorium, there is also a comprehensive exhibition, which chronicles the life of King Rama IX, with topics ranging from his childhood to achievements in science, Buddhism and international relations. In smaller open-air pavilions, the art of creating the crematorium is displayed, with videos displaying the artists at work.

» Hung on the 4th and 5th floors of the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre are familiar photographs of Buddhist statues, stunning ancient pagodas, and people and monks absorbed in prayer. The photos, taken by veteran Italian photographer Andrea Pistolesi are highly dramatic -- sometimes overly so, with high dynamic range effects, high contrast, and interesting textures superimposed on top.

October marks the one-year anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol's passing, and in a gesture of dedication and remembrance, ChangChui creative hub in Thon Buri is holding a month-long programme called From Particles To Father's Universe, featuring numerous art exhibitions and talks on His Majesty and his works. Highlights include the Silence Of The Universe art exhibition, consisting of a collaboration of over 70 artists, talk sessions from PorLeawDee - The Creator, live music from Silpakorn University's Faculty of Music and tastings of nine favourite dishes of His Majesty. The Mormon missionary-turned-local-YouTube star has been plastered all over the news this week once again -- finding himself on the end of public outrage after his latest stunt of trying to flatten coins on Bangkok's railroad tracks. The whole event may seem like an overreaction, but this hasn't been the first time that the 24-year-old American has angered locals and expats due to his juvenile stunts.
