Siam Philharmonic serves up a passionate masterclass

» For the past few months, the Siam Philharmonic has performed only in events commemorating the late King Bhuminol Adulyadej, notably the performance of the Royal Anthem in Sanam Luang in October. Last Tuesday, the orchestra and its conductor, Maestro Somtow Sucharitkul, emerged from seclusion and presented its first concert of standard classical repertoire in its fifteenth season.

Heaven and hell in Dasjati

» Opera Siam, with help from such heavyweights as ThaiBev and the Department of Cultural Promotion, put on excerpts from Somtow Sucharitkul's epic 10-opera cycle Dasjati (Tossachat - Ten Lives Of The Buddha) last Sunday. The production was part of the 70th anniversary celebrations of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne, and the two shows, particularly the afternoon one, were packed, auguring well for an audience for opera in Thailand.
