Tourism needs clear direction from above

» The government’s plan to achieve 2.2 trillion baht in tourism revenue in 2015 depends on clear action and policies, according to tourism-related experts. Dr. Naligatibhak Sangsanit, head of DASTA (Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration), said that simply relying on bigger numbers doesn’t necessarily lead to bigger revenue on the scale anticipated.

Orchestra on The Beach at Cha-Am

» The Cha-Am Municipality invited an international orchestra from the Fine Arts Department of Thailand to provide a free musical performance on the beach on 16th August 2013. The opening  of the concert was performed by the Mayor of Cha-Am Mr. Nukul Pornsomboonsiri.

» The director of Ban Takiab Municipal School Saman Bunhoh, the member of Hua Hin Municipal Council Cheep Suksee and the former member of Prachuab Khirikhan Provincial Council Somsak Khiewkham hosted a national mother day celebration on 9 August and gave the good mother awards to Mrs. Luen Phuengjoh, the mother of Hua Hin Today journalist Mr. Chumnan Phuengjoh, and Mrs. Chamrern Ngamnoi.

» The Hua Hin Municipality is launching a project to install CCTVs at a total of 160 points along Phetchakasem Road between Hua Hin Airport to Khao Tao. This 40 million THB budget project aims to boost the safety of Thai and foreign tourists to support the effort of Hua Hin Tourist Police Officers.

Tourist Police clean up

» Nearly 50 locals were apprehended by Pattaya Tourist Police in a round-up of undesirable characters who are said to besmirch the image of the city. These detained included 22 transvestites ostensibly soliciting tourists for sex whilst in reality preparing to rob them, and a large number of beggars, mostly Cambodian, who are illegal aliens believed to handicap a good tourist environment.

100 sharks released into the sea

» <p>The Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture released a large number of brown-banded bamboo-sharks into the ocean at Sattahip as part of the ongoing struggle to preserve and protect the environment. A spokesman for the ministry said that there were 63 species of sharks in Thai waters but they were being hunted to extinction because of their popularity in making certain soups. He added that Sattahip was a good place to release the sharks as the area is controlled by the Thai Navy, which means that the valuable marine creatures have a better chance of survival.</p>
