» 1. After a dozen years as one of Thailand's premier shopping centres, Siam Paragon is celebrating its latest anniversary with their extensive "Siam The Great Celebration" campaign. It's made up of multiple smaller events set to be held until Jan 15 next year. Examples of the events featured include a pop-up installation from Miu Miu fashion brand, an exhibition of French jewellery brand Cartier's special Cartier Red Box and a Harry Potter-themed "Christmas In The Wizarding World" retail experience. There will also be various special promotions and discounts for shoppers throughout the campaign's duration.

» 1. From today until next Wednesday, head to the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Centre for the SAC Asean Film Festival. A commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Asean community, the festival will feature seven films from seven neighbouring Asean countries of Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore and Malaysia, as well as seminars and discussions about various topics. Over the weekend it attracted thousands of visitors, shoppers, diners and selfie addicts who feasted on ChangChui's industrial chic backdrop. By last Sunday, the space suggested through its Facebook page for visitors to come by taxi, for the convenience of everyone.

» A South Korean fantasy-thriller featuring an international cast is arriving on the screen worldwide next week -- in many cases the screen of your living-room television. The sci-fi romp Okja, directed by Bong Joon-ho and starring Tilda Swinton, Jake Gyllenhaal and Ahn Seo-hyun, is produced by the streaming giant Netflix, and its strategy of hiring a brand-name filmmaker and A-list cast for a high-budget "television movie" looks set to challenge the landscape of global film consumption and distribution.
World films on world tour

» Oxlaey -- a group of non-profit filmmakers who created short documentaries about local life -- will be showing their latest batch of films this coming Sunday at the Jam Cafe. Focusing on the people of Songkhla, the film event, Lost In Homeland, is a series of 10 short films, each focused on a different person in the province, and is told in documentary-style interviews with locals about everything from art and culture to food. The screenings will last a combined 60 minutes, and are free.

» 1 Treat yourself to some of the best short films in recent Thai history with Lost In Blue, a collection of three student-made films revolving around various types of heartbreak. The three films (Wannan Kong Duen -- That Day Of The Month, Rain and Glowstick) -- directed by recent graduates of Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Communication Arts -- have collectively won various awards both in Thailand and abroad. The long list of accolades includes the White Elephant Film Award, the Young Thai Artist Award, and, most prominently, the Special Jury Mention award from the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival. The latter is known as one of the most prestigious short-film competitions in the world, and that makes Wannan Kong Duen one of only two Thai short films ever to win an award at the competition. The film is being shown exclusively at SF World Cinema, CentralWorld.

Held in collaboration with local party collective Kolour, the event will also feature a host of DJs both local and international, who will be laying down the party beats. Tickets cost 900 baht, but early-birds can pick them up for a discounted 700 baht. Arrive before 3pm and you'll even get two complimentary drinks with your tickets. Considering the country's current water-shortage problems, a pool party is probably the most responsible way to get yourselves doused this Songkran anyway.
