» There's always a brighter side to even the gloomiest story, but it can sometimes take a measure - or a great deal - of positive thinking to see it. Take the outrage in some quarters about the planned redevelopment, probably involving demolition, of two cherished old cinemas in Siam Square, for example. Whether or not the Lido and the Scala survive in their present form, at least the threat to their existence has galvanised a group of young preservation activists into voicing their concerns; and the unfolding situation may even teach them how to better preserve our cultural heritage.
