(A few years ago, the American filmmaker makes a short video mocking the impracticality of New York bike lanes. In the clip, he actually gets a ticket for not riding a bicycle in the bike lane — which is often blocked by things like trash cans, construction ladders, even a police car!)

» Charoen Chai is an old Bangkok neighbourhood located between Charoen Krung and Plabpla Chai roads, from which names its own is believed to have been derived. In 2010, rumours that residents would be evicted to make way for the construction of a new underground train route (the MRT’s blue line) caused members of this century-old community to band together and form the Charoen Chai Conservation and Rehabilitation group in an effort to save their own homes.

His disgruntlement over news of angry farmers dumping produce such as lychees and longans in a protest against low prices six years ago inspired him to create the Chiang Mai beverage brand Maa Jai Dum (black-hearted dog). He was determined to use local fruits as ingredients.
