» At the International Furniture Fair Singapore taking place now until Sunday, a Thai designer is one of the 10 international talents featured under the Design Stars Showcase. Sarngsan Na Soontorn graduated from Chiang Mai University in 2003, went to École Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle in Paris, and has since spent his career in Paris and Chiang Mai, working in several designers' studios where he combines the influences of both worlds into products.

The mega-hit I Fine, Thank You, Love You is lighting up the till and on its way to becoming the year's top-grosser at a projected 250 million baht (if it hits that mark, it will join the pantheon of the country's all-time top-three hits, surpassing each of the King Naresuan films and behind only Suriyothai and Phi Mak Phra Khanong).

Angelina Jolie swooped down as the horned, husky-voiced witch and John Goodman, last heard as Sully in Pixar's Monsters University, was declared a new legend. Attended by thousands of Disney fans, families and stars, D23 _ so named after the year that Walt Disney set up his studio in Hollywood _ was a biennial fan gathering and corporate expo where the creative vision of Walt and the entrepreneurial acumen of his organisation were celebrated, affirmed and expanded.

» The man is 52, and yet retains his youthful vibe. His dark-framed glasses, besides his bright face, are what help us recognise him. He shows up slightly late, as to be expected from a founder, top executive, chief brain and nerve centre of one of the country's most powerful showbiz companies. On his desk is a dish of egg tarts, his choice sweet. He smiles and invites us to join him. Outside the office window of Workpoint Entertainment stretches out the vast, dry, flat, skyscraper-less expanse of Pathum Thani.
