From being almost alien to Bangkok streets a few years ago, bicycles have gained in popularity, with an increase in the number of cyclists. For some, cycling is a hobby, while for others wanting to save time and energy, it is part of everyday life. Due to the rise in the number of cyclists, this mode of green transport became a policy issue for candidates in the Bangkok gubernatorial elections earlier this year _ the first time it attracted attention from top policymakers.
