» No doubt, Bangkok has its fair share of issues that hover over the urban landscape. From developers chasing out communities to make way for even more condominiums to the lack of greenery -- and don't get us started on the state of footpaths and the Jackson Pollock-inspired electrical wires we have proudly exhibiting all around town -- there's clearly a lot for our eyes to take in.

» Not a fan of the overplayed, for-the-masses type of music? Then you need to tune into Cat Radio, the number one independent music station in Thailand. What makes this station (available on www.thisiscat.com and application: Cat Radio) special (apart from its absence of the typical high-pitch DJs screeching down the microphone stressing the 'r's and 'l's in every sentence — yes we get it, well done, you've finally mastered the American accent!) is its unique picks of songs. This is all thanks to Arthit Promprasit, aka DJ Sonny, whose passion lies in vinyl records. He's been collecting them for over 25 years. His experience in the music field lies beyond the decks and building a huge record collection; he is also a music critic and journalist — as well as a DJ with the smoothest voice we've ever come across.

» Afternoon tea in Bangkok often brings to mind posh hotels, an uptight atmosphere and a price tag that could have easily bought you three decent meals. And as decadent as they come, sadly not many are able to replicate the ambiance of classic British tea houses, nor have they found a remedy for the plague of crappy clotted cream and bland sandwiches.

And anyone who says otherwise, is probably not doing it right. From dealing with difficult customers and unreliable suppliers to spending long hours on your feet in the kitchen working under tremendous pressure, there are a myriad of reasons that make working in F&B sound far from a dream job to most. But there are those few out there who welcome these challenges and manage to do it with a smile still intact.

» My initial thought upon hearing about Thailand's first sushi burrito was, "What has this world come to?" Next thing you know it'll be pla ra popcorn, pad thai burger and ramen pizza on the fad list. My lack of interest in fusion food stems from the fact that more often than not, bringing two things that have already been perfected, mashing them together and hoping for the best just doesn't seem to bounce with my (taste)buds.

It is, however, breaking new grounds by introducing a dim sum buffet with all the trimmings at a very affordable price of B599++ per person.
