Real Life Fantasy

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 31/05/2019

» When you were a kid, you probably have read countless fairy tales with magical lands and wondrous kingdoms. As a child, you would have dreamt of living in places that were possible only in the imagination -- beautiful gardens, charming castles and serene lakes. While you may not exactly live in an actual castle on a faraway land, Khao Yai's Hotel Labaris is the next best thing to living in an idyllic, fairy tale world. I visited this magical place to give you the lowdown on becoming king of a faraway land.

The concept, which was created by the owners of the bean-to-bar Malai Chocolate, focuses on an unlikely pair -- hot, spicy chicken and doughnuts. Could this mild-mannered writer handle the heat? Time to get healthy

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 24/08/2018

» Launched in March, Cocogo is an online food delivery service that specialises in healthy eating, focused on those who don't have the time to cook or go to a restaurant. However, Cocogo isn't your usual "order one quick meal on the go". They deliver a set meal plan consisting of two or three meals a day. That means you can depend on their service for breakfast, lunch and dinner. But how does it fare among other healthy food delivery services? For those who haven't started that diet plan for their new year resolutions, read on to find out.

Sound hounds

» Bangkok's underground electronic music scene has been rapidly growing in recent years. There are various events focusing on different music genres which include house, disco, techno as well as the subgenres within, which there weren't as many a few years back. Western influences have changed the music landscape and conversely, Thai acts have begun to take inspiration from their style to apply on their craft. We chat with six Bangkok-based DJs and acts, artists who are putting in the sweat to expand and gain exposure in the underground music scene. These DJs have made a significant impact on the dance music community in recent years and Guru feels the need to give you, especially you who love the underground dance music scene, a proper introduction.

Hidden in plain sight

Guru, Pasavat Tanskul, Published on 08/06/2018

» There is no doubt Thailand's nightlife is booming with bars and drinks with unusual names and concoctions. And speaking of which, for every new bar that opens, there has to be a gimmick of some sort to attract bar patrons. Which brings us to this week's cover story for which we went around the city looking for bars with hard-to-spot entrances. After constantly getting lost and double checking Google Maps on our phones, we managed to list four hidden (well not-so-hidden now that we're writing about them) bars for the adventurous bar hoppers who would like to do a bit of effort in getting a drink. Half the fun is discovering them on your own so we included an elusive metre in terms of difficulty finding each tavern, as well as providing a few hints to help guide you on your way. Whether you have already discovered them (shush!) or in need of a change of setting and have a sense of exploration with friends, then Godspeed!

» It has been a month since we've cooled down under the blistering heat celebrating Songkran. While the Bangkok weather may not have been all sunshine and rainbows (more like cloudy with a chance of heavy rain) as of late, we still felt compelled to find four cool places with chilly activities should you ever want to face the sun again.

» Today is the first day of Songkran and we know what you're thinking: "Where should I celebrate the Thai New Year for some fun-soaked festivities?". There are tonnes of places where you can spray water and dab some scented powder on to others, or if staying dry is your thing, there are events dedicated to that, too. Songkran doesn't have to be just attending the countless EDM parties during these busy days (you can check a handful of them in the parties section of listings), these events are can be enjoyed by just about anybody. So grab your water guns and don some waterproof clothes (or why not don some traditional Thai outfits as that's what's all the rage this year), wannee pen wan Songkran!
