It's all about roots

Guru, Catherine Faulder, Published on 19/05/2017

» The setting: Several months ago an awesome little venue called Roots set up shop in K Village and the place seems to have made an impression on the area as quite the community has now been built around this bar and grill. Crowds gather here regularly, especially during weekends to chillax, eat soul food and listen to good music. The venue is comprised of both an indoor seating area and a large outdoor garden area that has direct access to a children's playground. So, it's kid-friendly and pet-friendly too. Despite the heat, we must admit it's pretty awesome sitting outside. Sip adequately intoxicating drinks and listen to DJs Octave and KC play funky beats while simultaneously watching delicious pizzas and Turkish bread being baked before your very eyes. #chilledvibes

Take five: What's trending and happening this week

Muse, Published on 29/04/2017

» 1. BTS passengers take note: Have you experienced bruised hips and discomfort when the mechanical barriers at the entrance hit you if you walk past them just a tad too slow? A campaign has started at change.org, a petition website, to demand the operators of BTS to modify its entrance system that basically doesn't snap at passengers -- something that will relieve parents with children or senior people from unduly worry. The campaign message cites Japan and other countries that use more passenger-friendly turnstiles. So far, nearly 4,000 people have signed for the campaign.

Wine Me Dine Me Indeed

Guru, Mika Apichatsakol, Published on 13/01/2017

» The Setting: Cantina Wine Bar & Italian Kitchen graces Ari with its first trattoria, a restaurant serving up true Italian comforts. Managed by Soho Hospitality, the group that has also brought us Havana Social, Charcoal and Above Eleven, it's no wonder the interior of this cozy and casual little Italian spot is so on point. Candle-lit for its evening opening hours, the best date seats are near the windows or against the rustic brick walls. Winos, however, will demand for the tables at the base of the glorious wine cellar in the middle of the restaurant. To reach the top of this bottle library, you'd have to climb the wooden ladder perched against it, or swing from the chandelier from the second floor. We recommend neither. You should just ask the staff, unless the owner of the establishment Matthew Milotich is already grabbing you some of the good stuff. But no matter where you sit in this intimate setting, you've got a view of the wine and of chefs hustling behind the counter. Pizza chefs work in calmer situations up at a baking station on a more private second floor.
