Nakhon Phanom: More than meets the eye

» The public space along the Mekong in the town of Nakhon Phanom was quite bright. It was illuminated by the yellow light of street lamps and colourful decorative lights to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. The ambience highly contrasted with the other side of the river, a quiet scene of the reserved forest of the Phou Hin Poun National Protected Area in Khammouane Province in Laos.

Japanese idyll

» The train was approaching Wakayama Station in the city of Wakayama in Japan. It was outstanding and different from other trains because it has a face like a white cat. There were two brown ears at the top. Two windows for the driver at the front looked like its eyes while there were three lines of whiskers on both cheeks next to a round nose and a straight mouth. The name of the train was the Tama Dencha, or Tama Train.

» Farmland stretches out and covers most of the flat land along the Irrawaddy River. From the aeroplane, I can see the green fertile land and the brown river before the aircraft lands in Mandalay, the second largest city in Myanmar after Yangon.
