Thai culture goes digital

» Visiting historical museums and official cultural websites in Thailand was boring in the past, but not anymore. In accordance with the government's Thailand 4.0 policy, the Ministry of Culture has upgraded art and cultural learning sources, with Culture Minister Veera Rojpojchanarat announcing the change last month.

» Mrigadayavan Palace, the summer palace of King Rama VI located on a beach in Cha-am, is known primarily as a cultural attraction. But caretakers also want it to be recognised as a learning centre and this has led to the project that opens the Archive Room to the public in conjunction with two art exhibitions that will run through next January.
Siam through the looking glass

» Many pictures of Siam are currently owned and kept by foreigners abroad and have never been shown in Thailand, until now. A total of 150 rare photographs, developed from foreign collectors and institutes' original photo prints and collodion, record the development of Siam and are on view at "Unseen Siam -- Early Photography 1860-1910" at the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC). Hosted by the centre and River Books, the show runs until Nov 7.

» When going to public libraries in Thailand, people imagine a gloomy atmosphere, outdated technology and over-bloated bureaucracy. The National Archives of Thailand, the official keeper of historical documents of invaluable significance, inspires the same feeling. Visitors can easily imagine the traditional process: showing ID cards, opening drawers, searching through indexes, filling in forms.
