The rise of consumer cryptocurrency

News, Steve Kaczynski and Scott Duke Kominers, Published on 26/02/2024

» Since its inception with the launch of Bitcoin in 2008, blockchain technology has gone through numerous cycles of public attention. Over time, growing interest and investment in the best-known cryptocurrencies has led to greater acceptance, as highlighted by the US Securities and Exchange Commission's approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF (exchange-traded fund) in January. While blockchains and their associated "crypto" assets have yet to be adopted by a truly broad base of consumers, that is starting to change, owing to a shift in how these technologies are being used.

It's not easy getting a decent mug shot

Roger Crutchley, Published on 03/09/2023

» There has been some debate in recent weeks concerning mug shots as a result of a high-profile legal case in the United States which readers will be relieved to learn I am not writing about. Creatures great and small, bless them all

News, Roger Crutchley, Published on 02/09/2018

» At the end of this month Dusit Zoo, better known as Khao Din, is shutting its gates after 80 years. Its 1,300 residents are moving to temporary accommodation in six provincial zoos until their new home opens in Pathum Thani in another three years. Moving can be quite a traumatic experience for animals, and we wish them all well.

Driving in reverse

News, Published on 28/07/2018

» Comparatively speaking, the conscripts/servants issue in the Thai armed forces is only adding to the military junta's declining image. Its continued existence only benefits a few thousand "generals", not the majority of the Thai armed forces or the country at large. In short, they are driving a car in reverse gear. It is clearly a conflict of interest, an important principle which should be tackled and utilised in the military junta's "reform policy".
