» Nepal, one of the world's poorest countries, was hit by two massive earthquakes that left a trail of destruction in April. Instead of opting to become despondent over the incident, the Nepali people seem to have banded together to survive the ordeal in a rather gallant manner. The disaster maimed, killed and left thousands homeless. Through the misfortune, however, locals have united, putting their neighbours' needs before their own. This is what I experienced during a recent trip to Nepal, home to Mount Everest.

» Women working the graveyard shift have often fallen prey to rape and theft. But when the victim happens to be pregnant and the assailants teenagers, the heinous crime could well be attributed to an ailing society in dire need of introspection and change.
