» Despite our sketchy 3G connectivity and low-speed internet connection in general, Bangkok is among the top places when it comes to social media. According to socialbakers.com, at the time of writing Bangkok is the city with the highest number of Facebookers - almost 12.8 million users. The Czech-based firm, which provides social media analysis and stats, also ranks Thailand 13th in the world list with almost 19 million users. Moreover, given that Suvarnabhumi Airport and Siam Paragon took the top two as the most Instagrammed places in 2012 says something about how tech-literate we Thais are.

The auditions for the third season of Thailand's Got Talent is about to take place nationwide early next month. It seems this year we're going to be seeing a good dose of dancing on the airwaves.

Socially Screwed

» Despite enabling us to stalk our exes to our heart's content, social media can also have some negative side effects. For the average person, this could come in the form of almost being run over by a car because you're too preoccupied sending cute (stupid) stickers to a friend via LINE. Not to mention all the weight that goes straight to your ass because you're surfing YouTube until the wee hours, or the horror of having your boss friend request you on Facebook.

Thailand's got weird talent

Guru, Pornchai Sereemongkonpol, Published on 29/06/2012

» With the current barrage of talent shows on television, we guestimate that every Thai person will have their 15 minutes of fame by the end of 2013. However, most of the "talent" we have seen is either debatable (painting with bare breasts), as original as eating green curry with kanom jeen (covering the same ol' songs) or kinda disturbing (children belching out love songs). To flesh out the real capabilities of this fine nation, we have sought out individuals with unique and special abilities for your entertainment. And for our own amusement, we decided to appoint ourselves as the judge for our very own "Thailand's Got Weird Talent" show. Here are the finalists.

So you think you can Waack?

» Making whoopee with a teddy bear; displaying a picture of a butthole; donning a golden costume head-to-toe as "Nang Gwak" while dancing in platform shoes at Lumpini Park - these are some of the provocative things Pan Pan Narkprasert, 23, has done in the name of bringing the avant-garde to the Thai art scene. The performing artist/curator/choreographer/drag queen is at the forefront of creative expression again with his latest passion - waacking.
