» Ademonstration against a controversial dam project in Mae Wong National Park will start at Bangkok Art and Culture Centre tomorrow. The dam plan has been criticised for its lack of transparency, questionable effi ciency in preventing future fl ooding and its threat to irreplaceable trees and wildlife. To deputy PM Plodprasob Suraswadi, forests can be regrown and wildlife bred, but an online petition against the project on Change.org has garnered over 113,401 signatures, becoming the biggest campaign of its kind in Asia (who knew that Thais are such environmentalists?!).

» The posters appeared suddenly at Thammasat University's Rangsit Campus, and they were designed to shock. They showed students in uniform simulating sexual acts, in provocative positions, with legs spread and buttons undone, though without any nudity. The four guerilla posters, put up surreptitiously last week, did their job _ igniting a storm of controversy and opening up debates not only about student uniforms but also the big themes of freedom, choice, and the value of one of Thailand's educational institutions.

The tour will offer a rare opportunity to experience the past grandeur of the rarely visited Chakrabongse Villa, the home of Prince Chakrabongse, son of Rama V; the Praya Palazzo, originally a riverside home of a nobleman at the court of Siam; plus the Chinese courtyard home of the Wanglee family _ all steeped in history and evocative of old Siam.
