» When House of Fritz Hansen in Soi Somkid first came to life in 2017, the white house from the 1950s it inhabited was polished into a showroom to display how luxury Danish furniture pieces could fit into a Thai home. Sleek and clean minimalism usually comes to mind at the mention of this Scandinavian name -- but the global rebrand that has been set into motion since last year is injecting quite a popping touch of colours, fun and modernity to its overall aesthetics.

» Having worked as the assistant of hospitality for trailblazer Barry Sternlicht when the Starwood empire was just getting launched, Amar Lalvani was right at the birth of the whole "cool lifestyle hotel" movement as it came into fruition 20 years ago. "I was there since the beginning and I loved it," the California-born hotelier recalls. "I didn't seek it, but when I saw it, it encapsulated everything I liked to do so I just stuck with it."

Twenty-eight leading Japanese artists were invited to create artworks featuring Doraemon, and Uniqlo is bringing the work of one of the most popular and recognised artists to your closet. Everybody’s favourite robot cat gets floral treatment like you’ve never seen before by everybody’s favourite flowery artist Takashi Murakami. A total of 15 tees will be featuring Doraemon with a splash of Murakami flowers in all colours of the rainbow. There will be a plush toy in the same Murakami style too, but for the traditionalists, check out the line of tees using graphics from the original comics. Director Ashutosh Gowariker may have been lauded for his taxing period drama Lagaan, which earned a nomination for the Oscar's Best Foreign Language Film in 2002, but his latest film, Mohenjo Daro, is a clichéd period epic that offers a confused peek into the past of a place that is now a Unesco World Heritage site. I mean, if you want "exotic" costumes, epic sets and a hero-unknowingly-related-to-this-city plot, this is just the thing.
