The town is renowned for its historical architecture from the Edo Period (1603–1868) and two traditional festivals -- the Sawara Hina Festival and Sawara Grand festival. Recently, scenic views of the town in photographs on facebook.com/wonder.sawara -- created to promote the town of Sawara among Thai tourists -- caught the eye of watercolourist Chatchai Thammaphirome, aka AnimaToey, and inspired him to paint.
