» One of Bangkok's grandest villas, once the private residence of princes, will be open to the public on Dec 15 and 16 for the "Unique Silver And Nielloware Exhibition At Chakrabongse House". As the name suggests, the exhibition features a stunning collection of silver and nielloware, as part of the release of a new book celebrating Thailand's rich heritage in these crafts. This is also a rare opportunity to visit the magnificent riverside villa of Chakrabongse House, opposite Wat Pho.
Cities of silk and elephants

» Surin, a northeastern province, is home to the largest number of domesticated elephants in Thailand and hosts the "Surin Elephant Round-Up" every third week of November. Nonetheless, tourists can expect things other than the annual elephant festival, particularly on the newly introduced route called BuRin, abbreviated from Buri Ram and Surin. The route, being promoted by the Department of Tourism under a homestay-standardisation project, emphasises the local ways of life related to elephant-raising, silk-weaving, basketry and cultural diversity.
The khon spectacle is merrier than ever

» The Support Foundation's annual khon performance never fails to entertain its audience. This year's instalment is a hugely enjoyable production of The Allegiance Of Phiphek episode from the Ramakien. The acting, dancing, costumes and props are as impressive as ever. And while the production may be restricted to a slightly more economical setting, this has been compensated for with funnier dialogue, including plenty of satirical gags riffing on current events.
The return of royal khon

» The wait is over for the return of the annual khon masked dance. The much-loved performance by the Foundation for the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques (Support Foundation) of HM Queen Sirikit under the Reign of King Rama IX will make a comeback at the Thailand Cultural Centre from Nov 3 until Dec 5, this time featuring an episode called The Allegiance Of Phiphek.
