» Science fiction is an ideal genre for people who wonder about, hope or fear for what can become real one day. One of the most famous themes in this genre is a dystopian future where technology develops malicious intent, and decides to take over the world with catastrophic consequences for humanity. While we're still not there yet, fiction is no longer fiction, and such wild imaginings have become reality, or at least some of them.
Leave race out of it

» It's easy to get upset when the movie you've paid tickets for turns out to be not as good as you expected. It's also common to see people get mad when a film adaptation of their favourite novel doesn't do it justice, whether due to plot changes or miscast roles. I mean it's OK if you aren't happy and complain about it to your friends and family. However, don't you think it's a little overboard to go online and slam the movie on social media, or even join in with other angry netizens and start mocking and bullying the actor who portrays the role that you don't approve of?
A plea for tradition

» When was the last time we went to a movie theatre? While most cinemas have reopened following months of pandemic-forced closures, I doubt moviegoers are ready to return en masse. As a movie critic who's been mainly working from home for the last 15 months, I miss the ambience of cinema -- the smell of popcorn, the posters advertising coming attractions or the greats of cinema's glory years. I miss finally watching that film on the big screen in darkness, the chilly atmosphere and surround sound that created an immersive experience that can't be replicated in a living room.
