» Like many others, I am not in the mood to travel during the partial lockdown but that will not stop me from exploring. From my computer screen, I can explore various sites in Bangkok and also other parts of the country. This will at least give me an idea of places to add to my itinerary in the future.

» On a raised wooden platform on Khao Dinso, a 350m-high hill along a coastline of the Gulf of Thailand in Chumphon province, a group of international birdwatchers are waiting to see raptor migration since dawn's break. Every year about a million birds migrate during autumn from cold lands in Russia or China, passing Khao Dinso in Thailand to the tropical islands of Indonesia to find food.

Tales of the tiny

» The size of a leafroller moth is small. It's a mere 1-1.5cm from the tip of the left to the right wing. It may be overlooked by many, but not by Nantasak Pinkaew. The 45-year-old moth taxonomist has found two new tortricid moth genera -- Sirindhornia and Kasetsartra -- and 27 species in the past 18 years. At present he is a lecturer at the Department of Entomology of Kasetsart University and the only expert in leafroller moths in Thailand.

» Though more and more countries have legalised marijuana for medical purposes, cannabis is still illegal in Thailand. But realising the gradually shifting tide, Rangsit University founded the Medical Cannabis Research Team last year in the hope of securing scientific proof on the medical benefits of cannabis -- and, pending a possible law change, to bring it back to Thai medicine for the first time in centuries.
