Golf made simple: Key rules every player should know

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 01/10/2025

» Carrying on with some basic 'easy to understand' golf rules that we all need to know well. To correctly drop a golf ball, you must release the ball from your hand at knee height, allowing it to fall straight down without touching your body or equipment before hitting the ground. The ball must then land and come to rest within the defined relief area for that required situation. Should it bounce away from the dropping area you can try two more times. If still unsuccessful -- you can then place the ball. If you drop the ball incorrectly, you simply must re-drop it without penalty, but you incur a penalty if you play the ball from a wrong place after dropping it.

Trigger is what every golfer needs for a perfect swing

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 09/07/2025

» It's not for the first time that I've mentioned how every golfer should have some sort of swing trigger to start off their swing. Many times, I've watched an average golfer take a few beautiful practice swings before approaching the ball, tensing up, then freezing for a few seconds before eventually executing a stiff looking swing that looks nothing like their practice swings.

Follow through is vital for a smooth and fluid swing

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 18/06/2025

» Follow through completely and don't stop your swing abruptly after making contact with the ball. Allow the club to release naturally through impact, following the path established by your setup and body rotation. Trust your swing mechanics and focus on maintaining a smooth and fluid motion through impact.

How to create a flawless foundation for good swing

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 11/06/2025

» In a perfect world, at the top of your backswing, the club should be parallel to the ground and pointing towards the target. Your lead arm should be extended, with your wrists hinging naturally to create a 90-degree angle between the club shaft and your left arm.

Why a pre-shot trigger is the key to a smooth swing

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 18/12/2024

» Do you rely on a trigger that helps to start your swing? Most of us do, as it's hard to move away from the ball and set things in motion without having something that will start off your swing. How often have you watched a golfer take a few beautiful practice swings before approaching the ball, then tenses up, and freezes for a while before executing a stiff, jerky swing that looks nothing like their practice swings.

Use the loft of wood to your advantage

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 28/06/2023

» Think about executing a fairway wood this way -- if your practice swings on the range don't sweep and touch the ground, you are practising topping it!

Keep your elbow tucked in for better golf swing

» If ever there was a secret movement that's required for any good golf swing it's the wondrous magic inch or two as you start the downswing.

Need for unique, out of the box ideas

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 15/03/2020

» Allow me to ask the question that many astute golf club owners and senior managerial staff (with any foresight) must have discussed in numerous meetings over these past few weeks.

Try to get into the slot for a real treat

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 09/02/2020

» Allow me to repeat this tip once more -- as it's vital to fully comprehended if you're looking to improve. Most of us "hit from the top" in an effort to clobber the ball. It seems like the more powerful move but it absolutely is not.

Your base must be in balance

» Posture and balance is critical in making the swing consistent, effective and effortless.
