» Are you having problems with pitch shots around the green, perhaps you're undecided to hit it high or low or make it stop quickly. Here's a way of making the shot selection and execution process simpler.

» When it comes to hitting it long off the tee, go with your normal shot shape. When driving the ball well, most of us play a slight draw, so no matter what the conditions, we'll always have this natural shape. Getting off the tee is the hardest part of the game for new golfers. I've seen many golfers fight their natural shot shape.

» Your knees and hips should be more or less parallel to the line of where you're trying to hit the ball; however, a fade or draw will need a little adjustment. Your shoulders should have the feeling of being a touch open and your right arm the same height as your left or even ever so slightly higher than your left.

» A hook doesn't hurt the average golfer, it's the pulled hook that hurts. If your drive flies straight and hooks towards the end, don't worry about it. However, if your ball starts off immediately to the left, and then hooks, look for some help immediately.

» Finish with your forearms in front of you. A good finish shows what has gone on before it, let your head come up to look at the good shot. » Learn the fundamentals of bunker play and getting out effectively from a greenside trap is not a difficult shot. Firstly, grip as you normally would any other club, don't grip it shorter as this encourages you to take a full swing all the way to a high follow-through without quitting on the shot when the club strikes the sand. Grip it tightly with the little finger and ring finger of your left hand so the club won't roll over and close in the sand.

» We seldom hit our middle-iron approach shots past the pin and there are those who preach hitting one club stronger, for example if the shot calls for a 7-iron, choose a 6-iron instead and hit it easier. However, l feel that it's better to take the 7-iron and hit it harder with the thought of getting the ball all the way to the hole.

» A golfing myth is that we must keep our heads down -- in fact, keeping it down too long will hinder your swing. Keeping your head down too long prevents a good follow-through because a golfer can't swing past hip-high with the head down and not give up something good in the finish to do it.

» If you don't play well today, don't worry about it.

» We've become so concerned with certain swing movements and positions that we tend to forget how the hands should use the golf club.
