» Your ball is in what the Rules call "temporary water." You may play your ball as it lies or take free relief. You take free relief by finding the nearest point of complete relief where you are clear of the puddle and then drop your original ball away from the puddle and within one club-length of that point, not nearer the hole. You may also take relief from a puddle of water if your ball is in a bunker.

» Nothing is better than the feeling of hitting the the ball right in the middle of the clubface, in the golf language we call it the 'sweet spot'. In reality the sweet spot is the 'no roll' spot, where the ball comes off absolutely straight, not spinning to one side or the other. This shot is usually hit accidentally, even though we're trying to do it every time we swing.

» Golf and psychology seem to go together and many a psychiatrist has been visited by a golfer regardless of their competence. I knew of one well known player who when under intense pressure went to what he called the "no mistakes swing" which he had in his repertoire -- a simple, reliable type of swing that he could call upon when he was in contention with a few holes to go. This swing wouldn't do anything fancy and wouldn't hit the ball as far as normal, but it was a repeating swing that would put his ball somewhere in the fairway or on the green.

» It has been said that the first 12-inch drawback away from the ball is the most important part of the golf swing. If you can master taking the club back correctly for the first foot of the back swing without picking the club up, rotating your forearms, taking the club too far to the inside and all these other swing killers, you can become very competent and develop power and consistency over the golf ball. But then again there are a few more inches to go through before the swing has finished!
