Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 01/04/2026

» Ball marks, shoe damage such as spike marks and scrapes or indentations caused by equipment or a flagstick are regarded as damage to the putting green and therefore may be repaired. Also included would be old hole plugs, turf plugs, seams of cut turf and scrapes or indentations from maintenance tools or vehicles, animal tracks or hoof indentations, and embedded objects such as a stone, acorn, hail or tee and indentations caused by them.

Why pressure and practice games matter

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 16/07/2025

» It's been proven that the brain can't learn unless you are challenging it with random tasks. Showing up to the range and hitting your driver for hours on end won't do much to improve your golf game. This is exactly why practice games are so effective. They simulate real pressure that you will feel on the course and encourage you to practise like you play.

How to create a flawless foundation for good swing

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 11/06/2025

» In a perfect world, at the top of your backswing, the club should be parallel to the ground and pointing towards the target. Your lead arm should be extended, with your wrists hinging naturally to create a 90-degree angle between the club shaft and your left arm.

Master patience or watch your golf game fall apart

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 23/04/2025

» Anybody who has ever picked up a club and tried to make a swipe at a golf ball has quickly realised the importance of patience in the game of golf. Whilst recognising this -- you're able to monitor your feelings and understand the natural results of failing to keep calm after hitting a terrible shot. All golfers learn quickly that patience is essential if you wish to play golf reasonably well. You cannot rush patience on the golf course, rather like bringing up a baby who's totally helpless and dependent on you, patience is learnt and is a vital requisite.

Hard work is essential for great swing

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 03/04/2025

» Most of us who've been playing for a long time picked up the basics of the game from watching carefully the swings of good players. Imitation has started many of us off in the game but this alone does not allow you to fully understand the swings inner workings. I must be honest here and say that watching only good swings will not make a good player. There is no shortcut, that I'm aware of, that will make a good player other than some hard work on the practice range. Imagining a nice-looking swing whilst hitting balls will help but we're all made differently, and as one well known player once told me 'we all have to work out what works on the course through blood, sweat and tears' so all the many movements required becomes muscle memory.

Backswing: Tips for power and balance

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 22/01/2025

» Winding up the backswing is basically a simple turn -- whilst at the same time stretching the elastic bands so that when you swing down and through the ball, it's as fast as possible, all the while keeping control of balance and direction.

Essential tips to start 2025 on right foot

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 15/01/2025

» Before 2025 gets fully underway, checking several basic points in your swing might be beneficial, rather like investing in putting your car in for a service before a long trip. Start with your grip by placing your lead hand on the top of the club with your thumb pointing down the right centre of the grip (for right-handers). Keep the thumb quite short as a long thumb leads to over hinging at the top of your swing.

Essential chipping tips: Grip, stance, club choice

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 26/06/2024

» The first important, foremost fundamental to learn about chipping is to try and keep your hands ahead of or even with the clubhead on the follow-through. Grip down slightly and flex your knees and keep the club near to you, instead of reaching out to the ball and move your weight a little more onto your left foot.

The three needed ingredients for success

Sports, Brett Brasier, Published on 25/05/2022

» When I start teaching any junior golfer, I tell them that their golf club doesn't know whose hands are holding it, as does the ball have any idea of who's sending it on its way.
