The dark side of vaping

Oped, Editorial, Published on 24/12/2025

» The latest crackdown on e‑cigarette labs in Pattaya and Bangkok this week is a stark reminder that e‑cigarettes -- illegal products that have become a lifestyle accessory for young people and partygoers -- are growing more widespread and more dangerous.

Mass transit preferred

Oped, Editorial, Published on 11/12/2025

» The fierce resistance against the idea of turning the Kasetsart tunnel–Ngamwongwan Road–Phong Phet Bridge into part of a double deck expressway should remind the Ministry of Transport to embrace public participation early when it comes to such projects rather than obsessing over the top-down decision-making process.

Editorial, Published on 12/11/2023

» The controversial bill to regulate the use and production of marijuana and hemp is back on the parliamentary agenda. Mekong drowned in water politics

News, Editorial, Published on 10/01/2021

News, Editorial, Published on 04/06/2020

» In 2016, the World Economic Forum foretold that without effective intervention, the amount of plastic waste would exceed fish in our oceans by 2050. The writing on the wall was clear -- act now or lose an ecosystem that generates half the oxygen we breathe. Thailand, ranked the sixth-worst ocean polluter, moved quickly to adopt the ambitious "Plastic Waste Road Map 2018-2030", a plan which promised to phase out consumer dependency on single-use plastics through specific targets with the ultimate goal of ensuring all plastic waste by 2027 is recyclable.

Mekong left starving

News, Editorial, Published on 06/12/2019

» Known for its signature reddish-brown waters, the Mekong River recently turned a bright blue in some parts. Its crystal-clear water may be beautiful to look at, but this change is a symptom of a sick and starving river. For ecologists and observers, it will be too naive not to point the finger at the usual suspects -- dams.
