» Jantima Sukmetta, 52, gradually unfolds a batik fabric. It has distinguished colours of golden yellow and brown, the naturally dyed colours from turmeric and leaves of khonthi (beach vitex). The khonthi plant is easily found along beaches in tambon Na Thap of Chana district in the southern province of Songkhla, where her Me-D Na Thap Batik Group is located.

» Around May to July every year, I set my calendar to visit the East as it is fruit season. Last week, I went to Klaeng, a coastal town in Rayong province. I planned to get fresh ripe fruit from an orchard, take in the fresh sea breeze and visit the memorial park of Sunthon Phu, one of the great poets of the early Rattanakosin era.

» A row boat approached the pier at Ban Thung Yi Peng (also spelled Ban Thung Yee Pheng) on Koh Lanta Yai in Krabi. Lining both sides of the waterway are dense mangrove forests. This is thanks to the efforts of the Community Based Tourism Club of Ban Thung Yi Peng, which has helped protect and replant mangrove trees for almost 20 years.

» Before the Sun rose over the Pattani River, one community in the city of Pattani were widely awake or perhaps didn't sleep from the night before. The old quarter was known as Chinatown Pattani. Last Tuesday, it was crowded with thousands of people from many parts of the country as well as visitors from Malaysia. They came to join the annual celebration of Chao Mae Lim Ko Nieo, the revered Chinese goddess.
