» The road leading to Ban Neon Kum in Bang Krathum district in Phitsanulok is quiet. Along the road are farmlands consisting mostly of banana plantations. For more than a century, locals in Bang Krathum have grown the fruit for producing sun-dried bananas -- known as kluay tak in Thai. Kluay tak is a Geographical Indication (GI) product of Bang Krathum. About 4,000 tonnes of kluay tak are produced yearly.

» Tea pickers, each having a bamboo basket on one side, walked in a row on their way out of a tea plantation. It was late afternoon. The sky was clear and the sunlight was about to turn yellow. My travel companions and I ambled along the same road but in the opposite direction of the tea pickers. We were on our way to the tea farm to have our tea-picking experience.

» Darkness swiftly enveloped the orange sky after dusk. Yellow lights came on up and down the mountainside, illuminating the ski slopes. The temperature, which had been 2C in the afternoon, dropped to a bone-chilling -8C at night. The freezing weather discouraged me from leaving my warm room, but there were plenty of hardy souls out enjoying some late-night skiing.
