A heart-racing time at the track

» Locals say The Fullerton is where the best view is when it comes to the Formula 1 races held in Singapore, but, to be honest, a 360 view has nothing on being near the vroom-ing roar of engines, right at the heart of the happening. Unless you were to throw a party for 40 in your suite's veranda, it's probably a better idea to splash on getting actual tickets to the event than paying five times the usual room rates. For a first-timer to this whole night-race experience and F1 weekend in Singapore, there is nothing quite as infectious as the collective gasps and cheers every time a race car zooms by or how one derives guilty pleasure when witnessing a crash.

» 1. The New York gourmet food and beverage destination Dean & Deluca is back again with new dishes inspired by the Land of the Rising Sun to celebrate Japanese Golden Week. A taste of Japan is combined with Dean & Deluca's signature flair, while drinks are inspired by sakura flowers. Five dishes that will fill you up and set you back no more than 455 baht each include Cold Somen Noodle Salad with Tiger Prawn, Gyukatsu Burger, Mentaiko Smoked Salmon Tagliolini, Butadon with Onsen Egg and Chicken Tsukune Donburi. Wash it down with pink-hued matcha drinks such as an Iced Sakura Cream Cheese Matcha Latte or Sakura Cream Cheese Matcha Milkshake. Available at Dean & Deluca stores, except at Suvarnabhumi Airport until the end of May.

» The Dusit Winter Festival (Oon Ai Rak) may be over, but initiatives from His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn to spread the good grace of Thai culture continue. From today until Sunday, a number of activities relating to Songkran festivities will be hosted at the Royal Plaza and nearby Sanam Suapa. Tonight, at 6pm, members of the public are invited to join in a Buddhist chant along with 239 monks to pay homage to Queen Sirikit and the past monarchs.

Designed specifically for this event and available only in Thailand, the Japanese brand has decided to splash out with the mede-tai motif, representing the Japanese red sea bream. As this fish is a major part of traditional Japanese festivals and is also consumed for its auspiciousness, it's been chosen for the collection as a symbol of good fortune and celebration. Most importantly, however, the tai was chosen for being a homonym of "Thai", and to honour its decade in Thailand.
