» The hotel founding family's fingerprints are all over the Aman Nai Lert Bangkok. Quite literally. But it's done so in the most magnificent and tasteful way possible. Before arriving at their suites, guests must pass a double-floored atrium, fitted with a stillwater black pool and white boulder oasis that ticks all the boxes of a Zen rock and sand garden. Towering over this peaceful cocoon are discreet but impressive plaster panels textured with curving stripes. These are not sand dune lines, but Thanphuying Lursakdi Sampatisiri's enlarged fingerprints -- a tribute to the hotel founder's grandmother and forward-thinking matriarch that has shaped Bangkok's Nai Lert Park today.

» Twenty years young and emerging as an even more sophisticated and inspiring go-to could be one way to describe the current incarnation of Siam Paragon. Extensive renovations that began in early 2024 have transformed the luxury mall into an even more glossy Mecca for high-end brands. But the retail epicentre is also trying to make a visitor's experience better by adding an arena of art that shows pieces by internationally-acclaimed artists from around the world. "We are the pride of Bangkok, and we are moving towards becoming established on the world stage," says Salawit Suviporn, executive vice president, Head of Think Tank at Siam Piwat. "Following Siam Paragon's 'luxury for all' initiative, we understand that everyone's [definition of] luxury is different, so we must cater to every group, age and sex. Art is one thing that binds everything together. The public spaces will showcase art to create wonderful experiences for visitors."

This year, it's Baan Sansiri Pattanakarn, where resplendent white houses (all lakorn-cameo worthy) have been erected on Pattanakarn 30. Inspired by the Regency era, much of the design aesthetics on these 37 rai of land will be derived from what is considered the golden age of arts and culture in 19th-century England.

» Rosewood is not a name that rings any personal bells, but I first unknowingly came across it while on a night out in Beijing. The so-far-lousy night took a turn when the social editor of a high-society magazine ushered me to get off my stool at the dingy bar we were in. We were first-timers in Beijing and unlike the Western press in the group, she was in no mood for pole dancers and Mandarin rock covers. She was the most well-informed and refined tippler of the Thai group, so we trustingly followed her taste to Rosewood Beijing, knowing whatever it was, it wasn't going to be the Chinese version of Patpong. It was the right decision, the one we should have gone with three hours earlier. What greeted us upon arrival were stunning high ceilings, stylish understatement and immense relief that there are chic and modern places to head to in the post-Mao capital.
