Unpacking luxury

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 20/02/2026

» In a neighbourhood where gold shop signs glow and street food carts putter past century-old shophouses, Louis Vuitton has checked in. Outside five connecting shophouses and its white, balconied façade, flags spangled with the brand's LV logo flutter alongside the glow of an elegantly lit Louis Vuitton Hotel Bangkok sign.

Green and grey

» The hotel founding family's fingerprints are all over the Aman Nai Lert Bangkok. Quite literally. But it's done so in the most magnificent and tasteful way possible. Before arriving at their suites, guests must pass a double-floored atrium, fitted with a stillwater black pool and white boulder oasis that ticks all the boxes of a Zen rock and sand garden. Towering over this peaceful cocoon are discreet but impressive plaster panels textured with curving stripes. These are not sand dune lines, but Thanphuying Lursakdi Sampatisiri's enlarged fingerprints -- a tribute to the hotel founder's grandmother and forward-thinking matriarch that has shaped Bangkok's Nai Lert Park today.

Going for gold

» 'They're going to make the ceiling gold," is what Natapa Sriyuksiri, managing director of Dusit Estate and Group Creative Strategy, had alarmingly texted a few years ago to the interior designer of Dusit Thani Bangkok, Andre Fu.

Bangkok Noi bling

» There's no doubt that Thai wooden houses possess a quaint and charming character you'd be hard-pressed to replicate elsewhere. Therefore, it's somewhat aggravating that they don't enjoy the same fawning over that neoclassical or colonial buildings in Bangkok do when it comes to preservation. Rickety, stilt wooden houses alongside the river may seem common and "normal" for the average Thai, but Bangkok-based Filipina entrepreneur Irma Go has always loved these structures, especially while taking visiting family and friends on boat tours on the sleepy canals of Bangkok.

» Properties from Sansiri's Luxury Collection have ensconced tenants in aesthetics of the Big Apple (98 Wireless) or have erected a British Regency-inspired neighbourhood filled with palatial white houses (Baan Sansiri Pattanakarn). This year, the real estate developer unveils BuGaan Yothinpattana as their latest flagship super-luxury project -- with three-floor residences that bring to mind the ultra-sleek, ultra-modern and ultra-cubic LA home.

The sensation of all senses

» 'Do you like The Beatles?" is one of the first questions Maribel asks me during our consultation before the treatment starts. "Well, even if you don't, you don't have a choice. You'll just have to listen to it anyway," she quips.

» Sebastian Copeland's upcoming plans include making another trip to the North Pole. It's nothing new for the photographer-cum-explorer, but there is an unsettling condition about this journey he is about to make. Not because he is now 54, nor due to the hazardous method he has chosen: walking. The most disturbing factor is that this is probably the last time he can do something like this.

Everything's coming up mangos

Life, Parisa Pichitmarn, Published on 25/05/2018

» It's mango season at Big Mango and for diehard fans, there is possibly no better time to be alive. Currently ongoing at Le Meridien Bangkok, one can immerse oneself in mango mania this summer with a pairing of mango-themed afternoon tea and massage. Priced at 1,500 baht for a Mango Inspirations Afternoon tea set and a 45-minute mango oil body massage for two, Mango Mystique is one of the sweetest deals we've seen on the tea circuit -- since that price alone usually just gets you one tea set (for the tea set alone the price is 800 baht).

Shopping with all your senses

» It feels like there is an Hour Glass store at practically every main street corner in Singapore, but the Hour Glass store that rules them all is situated on Bideford Road, just off Orchard and right next to Paragon. Fashioned under the name Malmaison and having sat at that location since 2011, the opulent enclave of 745m² is largely under the radar to the common pedestrian, despite the fact that what is housed inside could well become your most lush watch-buying experience ever. Even a local tour guide confirms that most Singaporeans are oblivious to the lavish encounter that awaits inside.
